2019 in Review

2019 was jam packed in the first half with hobby – and fairly spotty with a hint of barren in the back half.

I worked my fingers to the bone getting a 3k point Emperor’s Children army done for June, which I can happily say I managed to achieve. After that I was really burnt out and the rest of the year I never picked up steam again.

My completed 3k point army at the June 30k event here in Victoria. I do actually want to go back and do some more work on them, add decals which we JUST got a sheet for (yay) so will start on that soon.

After this I took the CK Studios 102 course. This was using a large Orc model and the focus was mostly on doing large areas of skin. It was a pretty good course but I think too many students in the room to get a good 1 on 1 with the instructor which was a shame. Either way I got some great concepts though I can’t say I ever have models to apply it to :D. They even had us do the teeth with the airbrush which was a feat. I never did finish him off 100%…maybe one day..

Next up for courses…oil weathering! For this I had to paint up a rhino for my Emperor’s Children in prep for the class hosted by a the very talented Brennan Baker from Vancouver. This was a great 1 day class where I finally got to learn the fun of oils, and I loved it! This was a fantastic way to weather tanks and I will go back and do this for my other EC tanks.

Since that point most of the year has been little things here and there. Finished off some titans (shown in the previous blog), Judge Dredd (ditto), and random characters for Necromunda as seen below! A bounty hunter, a cyber pooch, the Cyber Assassin (the one in all black with some red), and 2 hive scummers!

Lastly, I randomly ended up adding 20 more terminators to my Iron Warriors. I banged these out for a large game we had over in Vancouver in the fall and now I have ended up  with 40 terminators all in for my Iron Warriors…

So, at the end…where did we end up based on my goals at the start of 2019? Lets take a look!

Well..uh..medicore?? Progress is progress however in this case so I’m still happy 🙂 Maybe I shouldn’t shoot so high for 2020… So lets take a look at what I have so far said I’ll do…

As you can probably see I have put much less on this years goals. The big decision I’ve made is to not really bother with 40k anymore. I don’t really enjoy 8th ed at all and with all the other games I’m playing I just don’t have the time or effort to keep up with it. The only 40k on my list is actually just Oldhammer stuff I want to paint for the fun of it! I’m already off to a win as I actually finished the Judge Dredd starter set right on the last day of 2019! So I will expand that to maybe adding a little more to it :).

Thats it! Thats 2019 in a nutshell and a little look at the upcoming year. I hope to do more courses as I am really enjoying gaining new skills and pushing myself. I already took 1 so far a week ago but will post about that later :). I also have to go back and take a lot of better pictures of projects I have finished..they are always quick shots on my paint table that never show things off well…
