40k 2nd Edition Army Challenge IV: ELDAR – Slice 3

Welcome back to another month of the wonderful 40k 2nd Edition challenge. For March, I finished off a small unit of Striking Scorpions (my original commitment) and then at the last minute was able to do some basic Guardian models!

So let’s start with the Scorpions.

I initially only committed 3 models for this month (weak, I know). My plan when starting out was to try and do only unique sculpts, and I only had 3 unique scorpion sculpts to work with. Not that there is many more either way.. (I think 2 more). I also had no Exarch or the character model Karandras. However I decided when I went to start that I should at least add a couple more models, even if they are duplicates. I felt a little bad seeing how much some of my other fellow participants were pushing out.

These models were pretty straight forward to paint up. I followed the scheme mostly from the codex, and added some red faceplates for a bit of colour and 90’s GW need for red! I’d love to get a few more one day, especially the exarch and the squad leader.

I wasn’t super thrilled with the freehand symbol on their helmets, but I could only stand to repaint that so many times..

So while I finished these up fairly quickly, I decided with about a week left I could probably do up a small squad of Guardians! I had a lovely collection of metal models, mostly Rogue Trader ones, that I had scooped on FB a little while ago. My favourite is the leader, with a Japanese looking Oni mask on his helmet. This model is a Rogue Trader Eldar Commander, which for the purposes of 2nd Ed, I would just call an Exarch.

The rest of the motley crew are more lovely old sculpts. I just love the character in each model, really beautiful sculpts! My favourite is probably the lovely blue hair super Mohawk guy. I did all these models up as the Saim-Hann Craftworld, which has long been a favourite of mine in both colour scheme and lore.

That wraps up the March commitment, and I’m already under way for April now. Will probably be a smaller amount due to some traveling mid month and other hobby goals I need to finish off!
